Rapid City, Presidential statue

who is this Pres?
Hint: He had his 'summer White House' in the Black Hills. [and he's from the state where my 2 kids were born...but as folks from that state would say, just because a cat has kittens in the oven, you can't call them biscuits.] one of the neat new attractions to downtown Rapid City are the presidential statues. They aren't full sized. I think they are smaller so you can sit in the car and see the full statue. They do 'work' as i spent $ walking around and seeing the stores and statues. |

Mount Rushmore

It was a picture perfect Sunday morning.
The mornings and the evenings are, according to word of mouth, the best time to see the Faces and photograph them. I wasn't one to worry bout shadows that day...it was just fun to walk around and hear all the American accents again and talk to people who were there for the first time, and people like myself who remembered the monument before the big renovations. And i sat in on a park service talk about the creation of the monument, something i never had the time to do before...and was too far from the park ranger explaining the life of the Lakota Sioux near a teepee but that scene brought back memories of the Indian chiefs who would visit with tourists in the 1960s. Their pictures are on postcards now. |

the Park Service has added walking trails cose to the base of the monument. There are view spots for all 4 presidents which 'frame' each face on the mountain.
Having seen the Faces so many times as a kid...and now to get so 'up close and personal' was a real thrill. |
